Explosive Offense Sparks Win

SAN DIEGO - Sophie Wallace matched a career high with five goals, fueling a balanced offensive effort as No. 3 Stanford easily put away No. 24 San Diego State 20-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Invitational.

Stanford (12-3, 1-0 MPSF), which has won 11 of its last 12 overall, received goals from 11 different players and reached the 20-goal mark for the third time this season.

Wallace, Stanford's leading scorer with 37 goals, also produced five scores in a victory over Marist back on Jan. 29, 2022.

Maggie Hawkins and Christina Hicks added hat tricks on four attempts for the Cardinal, which scored 20 goals off 27 attempts for a 74.1 percentage.

Reagan McEachen was the fourth Cardinal player to deliver a multi-goal effort, scoring twice off four attempts.

The Cardinal led 5-0 after the first period before doubling that output for a 10-1 advantage at halftime.

Hicks scored two of her three goals in the third period, which was Stanford's highest-scoring stanza featuring six goals.

Quinn Healy's goal with 33 seconds left ensured Stanford would reach the 20-goal plateau.

Jackie King and Christine Carpenter split time in goal, playing two quarters each.

Stanford closes out competition at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday, March 10, facing No. 19 Harvard at 8:30 a.m.
