STANFORD, Calif. - Seven Cardinal fencers have been selected for next weekend's National Championships, the NCAA announced today. Leading the way is senior two-time All-American Irene Yeu in women's epee. The Card topped the MPSF at last weekend's conference championship for the third-straight year.
Freshman Arianna Cao was selected in her first year on The Farm, after taking home last weekend's MPSF crown in women's foil. Joining her in the competition is sophomore Crystal Qian, who topped the NCAA West Regional's women's foil competition.
Senior Joy Yun and grad student Casey Chan each were selected in women's saber, after finished second and third, respectively, in the MPSF Championships. Chan also topped the NCAA West Regional field the day prior, part of a Cardinal squad that swept the top three spots of the women's saber.
Freshman Jared Hammerstom was selected for men's saber, after taking the MPSF crown last weekend. Sophomore Sanjay Kasi was selected for men's foil, after tying for third in the MPSF.
The competition to run from March 21-24 at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. The women's competition will run on March 21 and 22, with Kasi beginning the men's competition on Saturday, March 23.
