No. 25 Stanford Closes Out Regular Season With Two Tri Meets

  • No. 25 Stanford completes the 2024 regular season this weekend competing in two away tri meets-- first, a matchup with No. 4 Utah and No. 42 Utah State in Salt Lake City Friday evening and just two days later a meeting with No. 3 California and No. 56 Sacramento State in Berkeley.
  • Friday's meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start while Sunday's meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The tri-meet at Utah will be streamed on Pac-12 Insider while the Cardinal's final regular-season meet will be streamed on Cal Live Stream.
  • No. 22 Stanford closed its home season with a bang Sunday, recording the second-best team score in program history against No. 2 California in the final Pac-12 edition of the Big Meet. The Cardinal fell to the Golden Bears 198.550-197.975 in the dual meet.
  • Stanford's 197.975 on Sunday is the 12th highest team score seen in the NCAA throughout the 2024 season.
  • The meet was highlighted by the first 10.000 score by a Stanford gymnast since April 20, 2018, as fifth-year Chloe Widner anchored the beam rotation with a perfect performance. Widner also added a new career-best score on floor of 9.975 and added a 9.925 on bars. The Frisco, Texas native earned a share of the beam and floor titles with her career-best performances.
  • For her perfect effort on beam and her incredible performances throughout the meet Sunday, posting three scores of 9.90-or-better, Widner earned Pac-12 Specialist of the Week Honors. Widner's honor is the fifth this season for the Cardinal, its most (so far) since the 2018 season (also earned five weekly awards).
  • Stanford recorded season-high team scores on bars, beam and floor en route to its final total, over a point better than any other result this season. The Cardinal's beam total of 49.675 was its best since Feb. 20, 2004, when Stanford recorded the still-standing NCAA team record total score of 198.875-- in a meet also against Bay Area foe California.
  • The Cardinal's second-best score in school history was led by 10 routines that matched or set new career-best efforts-- two from senior Amanda Zeng (9.875-- vault, new career high; 9.900-- floor, matched career high), two from Widner (10.000-- beam, new career high; 9.975-- floor, new career high), two from Neault (9.950-- beam, matched career high; 9.925-- floor, matched career high), and one from Ira Alexeeva (9.975-- beam, new career high), Ava Sorrento (9.900-- bars, new career high), Taralyn Nguyen (9.925-- floor, new career high), and Sienna Robinson (9.950-- beam, new career high).
  • For the third consecutive week, the Cardinal boosted its NQS, this time with its second-best score in the program's history. Stanford's NQS of 196.615 is currently calculated by these six team scores:
    • 197.975- home vs. California (March 10, 2024)  high score dropped from calculation
    • 196.875- home vs. Washington (Feb. 5, 2024)
    • 196.875- home vs. Arizona State (Feb. 9, 2024)
    • 196.625- road score at Utah (Feb. 23, 2024)
    • 196.600- road score at Oregon State (Feb. 17, 2024)
    • 196.100- road score at Denver (Jan. 21, 2024)
  • Stanford can increase its NQS this weekend with any team score above 196.100.
