Cardinal Splits Doubleheader with Sacramento State

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 Cardinal split today's doubleheader with Sacramento State, falling 3-2 in the first game before dominating in a 6-0 game two win. Senior Regan Krause was sharp in game two, posting a career-best 10 strikeouts.

In game one, the Hornets struck quickly in the top of the first to go up 2-0. The Card answered in the bottom of the second, with senior Caelan Koch doubling to score senior Aly Kaneshiro. Two batters later, freshman Jade Berry singled to score junior Dani Hayes, pinch running for Koch, and tie the game.

Sacramento State would score in the sixth to take the lead for good.

Game two was different for the Cardinal, with Krause dealing from the start. The senior started the night with a strikeout, the first of 10 to set a new career high. Junior Allie Clements singled in a run in the first, and would come around to score along with Koch on a pair of Hornet errors.

The 3-0 Cardinal lead lasted until the third inning, when sophomore Emily Jones crushed her first career homer to right field to score three and make it 6-0.

Krause finished with the win, allowing just two hits and no walks in seven innings. Krause had a no-hit bid going into the sixth inning, before giving up the only two hits of the night in the sixth and seventh innings.

The senior from Pontiac, Ill. has now pitched 11.2 straight scoreless innings across three appearances.

The Card will open up conference play on Friday with the first of three games at No. 17 California.
