No. 25 Stanford Picks Up Victory in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY -- No. 25 Stanford kicked off a busy final weekend of regular-season action Friday, competing at No. 5 Utah in a tri meet with Utah State. The Cardinal fell to the Utes 198.300-196.500 but topped the Aggies 196.500-195.225. 

Fifth year Chloe Widner made her first appearance in the all-around competition since January at the meet, finishing third with a score of 39.500 led by top-10 finishes on bars, beam and floor. 

The Cardinal started its day on beam, earning its best event total of the day with a team score of 49.225. Widner led the lineup with a 9.925 while sophomore Claire Dean led off the rotation with a 9.875. Sophomore Taralyn Nguyen and junior Brenna Neault each added scores of 9.825 and freshman Sienna Robinson rounded out the scoring efforts with a 9.775.

Stanford then went to floor, its lowest-scoring rotation of the night with an event score of 48.925. Widner once again had the Cardinal's highest score of the lineup with a 9.875, followed by a 9.825 from sophomore Anna Roberts and a 9.775 from Dean. The final two scoring routines came from Nguyen and Neault, each posting scores of 9.725.

It was then onto vault where the Cardinal matched its best rotation of the season, scoring a team total of 49.200. Nguyen matched her career high with a 9.900 to lead all Stanford gymnasts, followed closely by Roberts' 9.875. Widner returned to the event for the first time since January and added a 9.825, and juniors Neault and Anapaula Gutierrez each posted scores of 9.800.

Stanford ended its night on bars, totaling a 49.150 team score led by senior Ira Alexeeva's 9.900. Gutierrez led off with a 9.800 and Widner anchored with a 9.875, while Roberts posted a 9.850 and Neault added a 9.725.

The Cardinal has a quick turnaround to its next meet, competing Sunday at Berkeley against No. 3 California and Sacramento State. The meeting with the Hornets and Golden Bears is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on Cal Live Stream.
