Pair of All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Daniel Cardenas and Hunter Garvin both secured their first NCAA All-America honors on the second day of the NCAA Championships at T-Mobile Center.

Stanford is in 16th place as a team, and has two All-Americans in the same season for the first time since 2022. It is the fourth time in the past five season Stanford has produced multiple All-Americans in the same season and the 10th time overall.

Cardenas, the No. 6 seed at 157 pounds, advanced to the semifinals with a 5-4 decision over No. 3 seed Meyer Shapiro of Cornell. It was the second win of the season for Cardenas over Shapiro, and the win made the sophomore the 25th individual NCAA All-American in school history.

Cardenas fell in the semifinals to No. 2 seed Jacori Teemer of Arizona State. He will face No. 7 seed Peyten Kellar of Ohio on Friday morning in the consolation semifinals.

Garvin battled his way back through the consolation bracket to become just the third freshman NCAA All-American in program history - joining Joey McKenna (2016) and teammate Jaden Abas (2021). The redshirt freshman from Iowa City is the 26th All-American in school history as the Cardinal now boasts 37 All-America honors overall.

Garvin won four matches on Friday to secure his spot in the consolation semifinals. He will meet No. 1 seed Keegan O'Toole of Missouri on Friday morning.

Redshirt senior Jaden Abas, the No. 26 seed at 149 pounds, won twice on Friday to reach the Round of 12, where he fell to No. 5 seed Ty Watters of West Virginia. Abas is now 74-30 in his Cardinal career. He has one more year of eligibility.

Sophomore Nico Provo (125) and senior Nick Stemmet (197) each picked up a win on Friday morning before ending their tournaments one win away from the Round of 12.

The medal rounds begin at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday on ESPNU.
