Cardinal Earns Fifth Straight 5-0 Sweep Victory

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 3 Stanford registered its fourth and fifth-consecutive sweep wins Friday against No. 17 Arizona and Pacific Friday at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.

Through 27 matches, Stanford sits at 24-3 behind six straight victories dating back to April 6.

The Cardinal swept Arizona for the second time in a week Friday morning, last meeting the Wildcats at the Pac-12 North Invitational April 6 in Seattle, Wash. where Stanford also earned a 5-0 victory. Senior Kate Reilly earned her 90th career victory to set the pace for the Cardinal in the match, as the fours pair of Reilly and freshman Stowell earned the first point of the dual with a 21-16, 21-17 win on court four. Junior Taylor Wilson and freshman Ruby Sorra followed with the day's lone three-set win of the day, topping the Wildcats' Kost/Shannon 21-18, 18-21, 15-9 on court two. Belardi and Hoffman, now 13-0 as a duo, clinched the win with a 21-12, 21-16 effort on court three.

Stanford entered the dual with Pacific up 1-0 due to a forfeit from the Tigers on court five. Sophomores Daria Gusarova and Ashley Vincent held their opponents to less than 10 points on each set, topping Pacific's Abougoush/Brown 21-9, 21-9 on court four to take a 2-0 lead, and fellow sophomore duo Line Andersson and Sophie Kubiak clinched the victory with a 21-7, 21-12 decisive win on court two.

The Cardinal wraps up regular-season action next weekend, welcoming No. 8 California, No. 11 Washington, No. 19 Grand Canyon, and UC Davis to The Farm for two days of play April 19 and 20. Stanford meets GCU and Washington on Friday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. before taking on California and UC Davis Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. After Saturday's matches, the Cardinal will honor its senior class of Abby Converse, Ellie Gamberdella, Maya Harvey, Xolani Hodel, Asha Johnson, Kate Reilly, and Emmy Sharp with a post-match ceremony.
