Two More Regatta Wins

Thompson Trophy Results Opens in a new window PCCSC Open Team Race Championship Results Opens in a new window

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Stanford claimed another conference title over the weekend, securing first place in the PCCSC Open Team Race Championship while also taking the top spot at the Thompson Trophy in Connecticut.

The conference title marks Stanford's 17th straight PCCSC Open Team Race championship.

"It was a great weekend for us; winning our conference championship and one side of the premier inter-conference team race event," said head sailing coach Chris Klevan. "To go 38-1 across the two events shows we have a team able to compete at the highest level."

The Cardinal hosted the conference event, inviting PCCSC opponents to the Bay Area for the regatta. Stanford went a perfect 18-0 at home, topping the seven team field.

Stanford put on a dominant display, sealing 10 1-2-3 sweeps among its 18 race wins. Santa Barbara came in second place, finished with a 15-3 record.

The Cardinal was led by skippers Hannah Freeman, Luke Woodworth, Reade Decker, and Sophie Fisher. The crews for the weekend in Redwood City consisted of Sophie Fisher, Ellie Harned, Alexis Young, and Shay Wood.

Meanwhile, in Connecticut, Stanford secured an impressive regatta win at the Thompson Trophy, sailing to a 20-1 record. Among the field of eight teams were Harvard, Brown, Boston College, and Tulane.

"This is the second weekend this season we won two events simultaneously, and for such a small team, this is especially impressive. However, our work is far from done," added Klevan. "We have one more critical championship and five practices before we ship up to Boston. We must capitalize on that time to give ourselves the best chance on the Charles River."

The Cardinal's only loss in the regatta came in the opening round to Harvard. Stanford went undefeated in both the second and third rounds to close out the event on top.

Harvard came in second with a 17-4 record.

The Cardinal fielded a team of just six sailors at the Thompson Trophy, with Michelle Lahrkamp, Vanessa Lahrkamp, and Thomas Sitzmann taking control of the skipper duties.

Patricia Gerli, Gwendolyn Donahue, and Alice Schmid served as crews during the regatta.

Stanford returns to action next weekend at the PCCSC Open Fleet Racing Championship in Santa Barbara, California. Following the final conference championship, Stanford will set its sights on the ICSA Championships, beginning at the end of the month, hosted by MIT.
