REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – Stanford ended the Pac-12 Invitational on a high note Sunday by sweeping La Salle in their two matchups.
In the first varsity eights, Stanford beat the Explorers, 5:52.6-5:56.5. In the second varsity eights, the Cardinal was clocked in 5:57.7 to La Salle's 6:02.6.
The sweep gave Stanford a 4-2 overall record between its 1V8 and 2V8 boats against three opponents – Syracuse, Wisconsin, and La Salle. Following a pair of losses to Syracuse on Saturday morning, Stanford responded by sweeping Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon and La Salle on Sunday.
The six-school event, which also included Cal and Oregon State, represented the first of two home regattas for Stanford. The other is the Big Row against Cal on May 4, also on the Belmont Channel/Redwood Shores Lagoon course.
Next on the schedule for the Cardinal is a duel against Oregon State at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Oregon, on April 27.
"We had some very candid discussions within the team after losing in the morning session yesterday against Syracuse," said Ted Sobolewski, Stanford's Farwell Family Director of Men's Rowing. "Frankly, I wasn't sure how the squad would respond in the afternoon, but we all came away from the victories against Wisconsin with renewed faith in what this group can achieve together.
"The last two weeks have required huge investments of physical and emotional energy from the athletes and coaches. We've learned a ton, but we definitely need a minute to reset and recharge. We're excited to have three weeks to get back to work before we head up to Dexter Lake to race Oregon State."
