ESPN Announces Home Opener Kickoff

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford football learned its kickoff time for the season opener against TCU on August 30. ESPN announced select kickoff times for week one of the college football season, with the Cardinal hosting the Horned Frogs at 7:30 pm PT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Stanford's second season under Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football Troy Taylor will begin on a Friday night against the national runner-up from the 2022 season. This marks fourth time these programs will meet, and the first since the 2017 Valero Alamo Bowl. The last time TCU visited Stanford was 2007, the first season of a home-and-home in which Stanford returned to visit in 2008.

The Cardinal has had great success in season openers in recent years, going 10-3 over the last 13 season openers. Last year, Stanford beat Hawai'i in the first game under Taylor, which also came on a Friday night. Stanford went 2-0 on Fridays in 2023.

The first two games of the 2024 season take place at Stanford Stadium before the Cardinal begins ACC play. Cal Poly comes to town on Sept. 7 before an off week prior to the team's first ACC game, a road contest at Syracuse on Sept. 20.
