STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's basketball continues to shape its roster under Kyle Smith, the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball, welcoming incoming freshman Donavin Young (Pasco, Wash.).
"We are very fortunate to have an opportunity to have Donavin Young as a member of our program," said Smith. "He fits the profile we are looking for regarding Faith, Family, Team and Academics, and he will provide excellent attitude, work ethic and pride in the program."
A 6-8 forward, Young averaged 15 points per game as a senior at Chiawana High School in Pasco before transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri for a prep year. A late bloomer, Young is an electrifying athlete that can stretch his shooting range beyond the 3-point arc.
"Donavin is a late bloomer who gives us a plus athlete in the frontcourt," Smith continued. "He can stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting and has the ability to be an impactful defender with his length and athleticism. He can chase down a lob as well as rebound out of his area. We are hoping that he can remind people of a Josh Huestis or Spencer Jones Stanford prototype."
Young was selected as a Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association All-Star from the 4A division.
Young is the fourth freshman in Stanford's class of 2024. The Cardinal has also signed a pair of transfers in Oziyah Sellers (USC) and Derin Saran (UC Irvine).
