Abas lands on CSC First Team

STANFORD, Calif. – Redshirt senior Jaden Abas has been selected a College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-American in the Men’s At-Large category, the organization announced today.

A team captain, Abas is just the fourth Cardinal to be named a CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American, and the first first-team selection since Nick Amuchastegui (2011 & 2012). He joins Amuchastegui, Tanner Gardner and Shane Griffith as the only wrestlers in program history to be both an NCAA All-American and a CSC Academic All-American during their careers.

A native of San Diego, Abas graduated in 2023 with a 3.80 cumulative GPA in psychology. He is working towards his master’s degree in sociology, boasting a 3.84 GPA. The 2024 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for wrestling, he is a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a four-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection.

A 2023 ACE participant, Abas traveled to South Africa to contribute to self-empowerment and sustainable development projects in communities around Cape Town. He took part in educational and sports workshops, and supported local outreach and educational awareness programs on the trip.

Abas is currently participating in a Wu Tsai Performance Alliance Research Program at Stanford, studying peak performance, with the goal of enabling all people to achieve optimal health and well-being.

The 149-pounder carries a career record of 74-30, including a 28-8 mark in duals. A three-time Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, Abas was the 2021 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year. A 2021 Pac-12 champion, he is now a four-time NCAA qualifier. In 2021 he became just the second freshman NCAA All-American in program history.

Abas will return to the Cardinal roster in 2024-25 for his sixth and final year of eligibility.
