STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford unveiled its 2024 cross country schedule on Friday, with the major change being the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Cary, North Carolina, on November 1.
Stanford was the all-time leader in men’s and women’s conference cross-country titles in the Pac-12 Conference, which has broken apart after more than 100 years. This fall will mark Stanford’s first season in the ACC.
The Cardinal features marquee competitors on both teams. Cross country All-American Cole Sprout returns for his fifth season for the men, while 2023 Pac-12 champion Amy Bunnage, now a sophomore, headlines the women’s team.
Lex Young’s 74th-place finish at the NCAA Championships last year in Virginia was the best by an American true freshman. Among returners, twins Lex and Leo, as well as Robert DiDonato and Thomas Boyden provide a solid and experienced core. A strong recruiting class will strengthen the Cardinal men as well.
Bunnage and Sophia Kennedy, 11th in the 5,000 at the NCAA outdoors, form a strong 1-2 punch from the sophomore class for the women's team.
Stanford opens, at it does annually, at the USF Invitational in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, on August 30.
Stanford’s two main regular season races come at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri, on September 27 and at the Pre-Nationals in Verona, Wisconsin, on October 19.
The NCAA Championships are also on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona.
