PARIS -- With a school-record 10 track and field Olympians, Stanford will be well-represented in Paris when the Games commence this week.
Stanford has six members of the U.S. team, which is tied for the second-most for any collegiate program. Representation is measured the number of current athletes, alums, and incoming freshmen. The previous high for Stanford was eight in Tokyo in 2021 and Beijing in 2008.
Stanford boasts two returning Olympic champions. Valarie Allman returns to defend her Olympic title in the women’s discus. She took the crown in Tokyo and has won the past six U.S. titles. Katerina Stefanidi, representing Greece, was the 2016 women’s pole vault champion in Rio.
In all, Stanford has produced 73 different Olympians, including 20 different medalists and 10 gold-medal winners.
This year, there are four first-time Olympians (Fiona O’Keeffe, Udodi Onwuzurike, Juliette Whittaker, and Harrison Williams). Overall, five countries are represented (U.S., Australia, Canada, Greece, and Nigeria).
