Women's volleyball sweeps the reigning national champs #6 Texas in Maples

       

In front of a record crowd of 6,894 at Maples Pavilion, No. 2 Stanford swept No. 6 Texas, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22, in its home opener on Sunday.

Stanford (7-0) hit .340 while holding Texas (3-3) to a .125 clip. It marks the best start to a season for the Cardinal since 2014, when it went 28-0 before dropping a match.

Women's volleyball vs. No. 6 Texas Highlights

Sami Francis registered a career-high 10 blocks to lead No. 2 Stanford in a 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15 win over UC Santa Barbara, Tuesday, at The Thunderdome.

Stanford (5-0) hit .208 as a team and finished with five aces and a season-best 15.0 blocks – three more than it had recorded in its previous four matches combined. UCSB (2-5) was held to .143 hitting and had three aces and 10.0 blocks.

No. 2 Stanford hit a season-high .417 as it defeated Pepperdine, 25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, Wednesday, at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Stanford (6-0) racked up a season-best 67 kills and tallied 61 digs, 7.0 blocks and five aces. Pepperdine (1-4) was held to .255 hitting and finished with 7.5 blocks and six aces.

Cardinal shuts out Irish

    

No. 3 Stanford took care of business on Tuesday evening, defeating UC Riverside 3-0 at Cagan Stadium for its fourth win in a row. Zach BohanePalmer Bank, and Duncan Jarvie each netted goals in the victory.

The Cardinal moves to 5-1 on the season while UC Riverside drops to 1-4 on the season.

No. 3 Stanford extended its win streak to five by taking down ACC foe No. 23 Notre Dame on Saturday night. The Cardinal also earned its second road win of the season in as many games away from home.

Stanford improves to 6-1 and 2-0 in ACC play while Notre Dame falls to 1-1-3 and 1-1 in conference games.

Card knocks off No.11 Santa Clara

   

Moving up from defender to start the second half at forward, freshman Lizzie Boamah scored her first career goal to hand No. 1 Stanford (8-0) a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 11 Santa Clara (6-2) from Stevens Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The goal, which came in the 55th minute, was keyed by the play of freshman Charlotte Kohler. The native of Woodside, Calif. stole the ball from a Santa Clara defender and played a pass through the Broncos’ back line where Boamah won a 50-50 ball and slotted her shot past a charging Marlee Nicolos in goal for Santa Clara.

The No. 2 Cardinal moved to 5-0 on the season with a 16-9 win over No. 12 UCSB today. Jackson Painter and Botond Balogh led the way with hat tricks, as the Cardinal scored six unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to secure the win.

Stanford took the early lead, thanks to a pair of goals from Dash McFarland in the first three minutes. UCSB scored twice in the quarter, but strikes from Will Schneider and Jackson Painter send the Card into the second quarter up 4-2.

The No. 2 Cardinal moved to a perfect 6-0 this afternoon with a 13-10 road win over No. 10 Long Beach State. Soren Jensen led the way with a hat trick, one of five Stanford scorers with multiple goals.

The Card was tied up with Long Beach at 3-3 after the first quarter, before edging ahead in the second to enter halftime with a 7-6 advantage. A 4-1 advantage in the third quarter built a cushion that held up for a 13-10 final.

Cara Sambeth's third goal of the season off a penalty stroke and an impressive defensive performance pushed Stanford to a 1-0 shutout win over in-state rival UC Davis on Friday afternoon. 

The Cardinal jumped to 4-1 on the young season after the win, already matching their win total from a season ago, while UC Davis falls to 2-2 in their season.
