A summary of performances from Stanford alums in NFL action this week

TWELVE STANFORD ALUMS started during Week 2 of the NFL season and 22 saw action altogether. Among the highlights were big performances in winning efforts by Paulson Adebo of the Saints, Solomon Thomas of the Jets, Zach Ertz of the Commanders, and Drew Dalman of the Falcons. 

The following is a summary of performances by Stanford alums in the NFL’s Week 2:

New Orleans starting left cornerback Paulson Adebo intercepted a pass and returned it 47 yards to set up a touchdown in the Saints’ 44-19 victory at Dallas. Adebo had four tackles and broke up two passes while playing 67 (96 percent) defensive snaps for the 2-0 Saints.


Arizona tight end Elijah Higgins caught an 18-yard pass from Kyler Murray for a second-quarter touchdown in the Cardinals’ 41-10 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Rams. Higgins played 36 offensive snaps and four on special teams. Starting Cardinals’ receiver Michael Wilson had two catches for 31 yards. Wilson’s 23-yarder in the second quarter and an eight-yarder in the third helped set up field goals. Wilson played 45 offensive snaps. Rams’ starting tight end Colby Parkinson had one catch for 12 yards while playing 42 (81 percent) offensive snaps. Joshua Karty made his only field-goal attempt, from 29 yards, and converted his only extra-point try for the Rams. Karty is perfect this season in both areas.

 
New York Jets defensive lineman Solomon Thomas had a big game in a 24-17 victory at Tennessee. Thomas had a sack, tackle for loss, quarterback hurry, and broke up a pass. Thomas had three tackles while playing in 29 defensive plays and three on special teams. The eight-yard sack of quarterback Will Levis came with Tennessee at the 17-yard line in the final minute of the first half and helped forced the Titans to settle for a field goal.

Washington starting tight end Zach Ertz had four catches for 64 yards in the Commanders’ 21-18 victory over the visiting New York Giants. Ertz had a 21-yard catch and a 20-yarder. Each helped set up field goals. Ertz played 47 offensive snaps. Inside linebacker Bobby Okereke started for the Giants and had a sack and two tackles for losses among his eight tackles. Okereke also had a quarterback hurry while playing all 72 defensive snaps.

Atlanta starting center Drew Dalman played all 61 offensive snaps in the Falcons’ 22-21 victory at Philadelphia on Monday night. Dalman earned a run-block grade of 85.2 from Pro Football Focus, the highest of any lineman in the game. His overall blocking grade of 83.1 was fifth among NFL centers. Eagles’ defensive tackle Thomas Booker three tackles, all solo, and two tackles for losses. Those were career-highs in each category for Booker, in his second active NFL season. Booker played nine defensive snaps.  


Kansas City starting strong safety Justin Reid made seven tackles in the Chiefs’ 26-25 victory over visiting Cincinnati. Reid played 59 (92 percent) defensive snaps and six on special teams for the 2-0 Chiefs. Bengals’ receiver Trenton Irwin had a catch for five yards for a first down to help set up a second-quarter touchdown. Irwin played 35 offensive snaps.

Buffalo defensive end Casey Toohill had two tackles, including a tackle for loss, in the Bills’ 31-10 victory at Miami on Thursday night that kept them undefeated, at 2-0. Toohill played 23 defensive snaps and five on special teams. Miami punter Jake Bailey had one punt, for 48 yards, that was fair caught at the 15, and was the holder on placekicks.

Las Vegas offensive guard Andrus Peat received his first start as a member of the Raiders and helped them to a 26-23 victory at Baltimore on Sunday. Peat played 27 offensive snaps and six on special teams.

Minnesota starting nose tackle Harrison Phillips had two tackles in the Vikings’ 23-17 victory over visiting San Francisco. Phillips played 44 (63 percent) defensive snaps for 2-0 Minnesota. Linebacker Curtis Robinson played 20 special teams snaps for the 49ers.

Houston tight end Dalton Schultz had two catches for 21 yards in the Texans’ 19-13 victory over visiting Chicago on Sunday night. Schultz played 44 (71 percent) offensive snaps.

New England starting tight end Austin Hooper had one catch for five yards in the Patriots’ 23-20 loss to visiting Seattle. Hooper played 37 offensive snaps and five on special teams. 

Los Angeles Chargers receiver Simi Fehoko played 28 offensive snaps and 13 on special teams in a 26-3 victory at Carolina for the 2-0 Chargers.

Jacksonville offensive tackle Walker Little was in on one offensive play and eight on special teams in the Jaguars’ 18-13 loss against visiting Cleveland.

Houston quarterback Davis Mills did not play.

Miami cornerback Ethan Bonner, Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Foster Sarell, and Philadelphia quarterback Tanner McKee were inactive.

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Tucker Fisk and Washington receiver Brycen Tremayne were on practice squads.

San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve Saturday because of his lingering calf and Achilles tendon injuries. The move means McCaffrey will miss at least three more games after already sitting out the first two games. He is eligible to return for a Thursday night game in Seattle on Oct. 10.

Pittsburgh offensive guard Nate Herbig is on the injured reserve list.
