LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Stanford's ACC debut was spoiled by No. 12 Louisville on Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 in the road contest to move to 5-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Cardinals jump to a 4-3 record with the win.
In an even contest between both programs, Louisville was able to capitalize on a pair of opportunities to secure the win while Stanford was left off the scoresheet for just the second time this season.
Stanford notched five offensive attacks in the game with Alayna Burns, Allison Kuzyk, Cara Sambeth each recording shots on goal. Junior netminder Daisy Ford recorded five saves as the starter of record.
"I'm very pleased with our play today. I have a lot of respect for Louisville and [head coach] Justine [Sowry]. I think we had possession most of the game and absolutely had our chances," head coach Roz Ellis said. "We can see the marginal differences in where their goals fell and ours didn't. Now we build on that and become better."
After a game that was back-and-forth for the majority of the first half, Louisville broke through just before the halftime horn as Chloe Plumb collected the rebound off her own shot and buried the second chance opportunity. The Cardinals added to their lead in the third quarter, as Izzy Bianco scored on a penalty corner to put the game out of reach.
Stanford wraps up the road trip on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT against No. 3 Virginia live on ACC Network Extra.
