LA JOLLA, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford men's water polo is back in the pool this weekend to kick off the 2024 season at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational. The Cardinal will play four games in two days, including a pair of top-10 matchups.

Stanford opens at 2:30 p.m. PT on Saturday against Redlands, before a bout with the eighth-ranked UC Davis Aggies at 6:30 p.m. PT. On day two the Card starts early with a 9:15 a.m. start against Concordia, wrapping the weekend with No. 6 UC Irvine at 1:15 p.m. PT.

TOP COMPETITION » Last season, Stanford went a perfect 3-0 against UC Davis, UC Irvine and Concordia. The Cardinal outscored their opponents by a combined 49-22 in the three wins, and went on to pick up seven top-10 wins.

VETERAN STANDOUTS » The Card returns three All America selections from 2023 in Jackson Painter, Riley Pittman and Ethan Parrish. The trio extended a nearly-fifty-year run of Stanford landing multiple student-athletes on an All America team every year since 1975.

RECORDS ON WATCH » Painter's 147 career goals with Stanford have him 37 goals shy of the 10th-most in program history. The last edit to the program's top-10 list was 2021. Additionally, Parrish enters the weekend just four goals away from his 100th career score.

FRESH FACES » Stanford added a number of strong newcomers ahead of the 2024 season, including a pair of transfers. Dash McFarland headlines the group, after scoring 82 goals for UCSB last season. The reigning Big West Player of the Year is joined by goalkeeper West Temkin, a Princeton transfer, as well as six incoming freshmen.

CARDINAL, WHITE AND BLUE » Four Cardinal products took home bronze with Team USA at this summer's Paris Olympic Games. Ben Hallock, Alex Bowen, Dylan Woodhead and Drew Holland were a part of the first Olympic medal since 2008, with Hallock serving as the team captain.
