Stanford Sweeps Titles at ITA Northwest Regionals

Cardinal qualifies two more in singles and a doubles pair for NCAAs

BERKELEY, Calif. - For the first time since 2021, Stanford swept both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.

The Cardinal featured both sets of opponents in the singles and doubles championships, the first school to do that since they themselves did three years ago. Before that it hadn't happened since at least 2003.

Playing in Berkeley following 16 consecutive regionals hosted on The Farm, a freshman burst on the scene for the Cardinal, as Valerie Glozman defeated senior Connie Ma in singles, before teaming up with Ma to take down Alexis Blokhina and Valencia Xu in doubles. Glozman is the first freshman to win in singles since Ma in 2021.

By virtue of her runner-up finish, Connie Ma joined Glozman as a qualifier for the NCAA Singles Championship in November. Becuse Glozman had already earned her NCAA spot following a quarterfinal run at the ITA All-American Championships late last month, a third-place playoff was contested to determine the region's second NCAA automatic qualifier and the Cardinal's Alexis Blokhina won that match over Washington's Reece Carter to book her ticket to Waco.

The doubles title for Glozman and Ma also qualified the pair for the NCAA Doubles Championship late next month.

Stanford has produced the tournament singles champion in 12 of the last 14 years: Valerie Glozman (2024), Alexandra Yepifanova (2022), Connie Ma (2021), Michaela Gordon (2019, 2018, 2017), Taylor Davidson (2015), Carol Zhao (2014), Kristie Ahn (2013, 2010), Krista Hardebeck (2012) and Nicole Gibbs (2011).
