Stanford in the NFL: Week 5

A big touchdown catch and an NFL debut highlight performances from Stanford alums

WITH THE NFL debut of Washington receiver Brycen Tremayne on Sunday, 268 Stanford alumni have played in NFL or AFL regular-season football games all-time.

And Tremayne makes 25 alumni to play through Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season.

The following is a summary of how former Cardinal fared in the NFL this week:

Arizona starting tight end Elijah Higgins caught a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to help rally the Cardinals from a 13-point second-half deficit to a 24-23 victory over the 49ers in Santa Clara. Higgins’ only catch of the game was a big one – a two-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone with 11:25 left that cut the Cardinals’ deficit to 23-21. Higgins played 24 offensive snaps and 13 on special teams. Cardinal’ starting receiver Michael Wilson had five catches for 78 yards, including gains of 34 and 20 yards. Wilson, who played 42 offensive snaps, had three catches on the 73-yard drive that resulted in Higgins’ touchdown.

Washington receiver Brycen Tremayne made his NFL debut in the Commanders’ 34-13 victory over visiting Cleveland, making his first reception. Tremayne, an undrafted free agent who has been on the practice squad for two seasons, was elevated to the active roster for the game. He played five offensive snaps and 13 on special teams, assisting on a tackle. Tremayne caught his one target, for a loss of two yards. He returned to the practice squad on Monday. Phillips sacked Aaron Rogers for a 12-yard loss and stripped the football from the Jets quarterback in the fourth quarter. Jets defensive tackle Solomon Thomas played 29 defensive snaps and five on special teams and made one solo tackle.

Los Angeles Rams starting tight end Colby Parkinson, in his first full season as a starter, established career highs in catches and yards in a 24-19 loss to visiting Green Bay. Parkinson had seven catches for 52 yards.
