STANFORD, Calif. - Fresh off winning the Big Splash win on Friday, the No.2 Cardinal is kicking off the team's postseason run at this weekend's MPSF Championship in Los Angeles. Stanford finished the regular season 19-3, and 4-2 in MPSF play to enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The Card opens the competition against Penn State-Behrend on Friday at 10:15 a.m. PT.
FAMILIAR FOES » Stanford enters with a 4-2 conference record. In the in-season MPSF Invitational, which did not count towards MPSF conference records, the Cardinal topped No. 7 California and fell to No. 3 USC in double overtime.
ALL-CONFERENCE CARD » Seven members of the Cardinal were named to the All-MPSF West team this week, with Riley Pittman, Soren Jensen and West Temkin earning First Team honors. Dash McFarland and Jackson Painter earned Second Team honors, while Ethan Parrish and Will Schneider picked up Honorable Mention recognition.
LEADING THE CARD » Riley Pittman has the team lead for both points and assists, with 81 and 37, respectively. Pittman's 81 points are the second most in the MPSF West, and his 37 assists are also the second most.
SOREN TO NEW HEIGHTS » Soren Jensen has put up a great season, tied with Pittman for the team lead with 44 goals scored, the fourth-best total in the MPSF West. Jensen's 13 multi-goal games lead the team.
FRESHMEN ON FIRE » The freshmen have been key contributors so far this season, with Ryan Ohl, Botond Balogh, Ben Forer and Will Schneider combining for 93 points (58 goals 35 assists).
STAUNCH DEFENSE » Stanford has done a great job limiting opponent attacks this season, allowing just 185 goals in 22 games, the fewest in the MPSF and an average of just 8.91 goals a game.
RECORD ON WATCH » The Card record books are due for an update, with Jackson Painter's 180 career goals just 4 shy of the 10th-most in program history.
VETERAN STANDOUTS » The Card returns three All America selections from 2023 in Painter, Pittman and Ethan Parrish. The trio extended a nearly-fifty-year run of Stanford landing multiple student-athletes on an All America team every year since 1975.
CARDINAL, WHITE AND BLUE » Four Cardinal products took home bronze with Team USA at this summer's Paris Olympic Games. Ben Hallock, Alex Bowen, Dylan Woodhead and Drew Holland were a part of the first Olympic medal since 2008, with Hallock serving as the team captain.
