SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the road for the first time this season, Stanford men’s basketball rallied from an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to defeat Santa Clara, 71-69, at Leavey Center. Stanford improves to 6-0 with the win.
Jaylen Blakes scored the game-winning basket from 18 feet with two seconds to go, fading away from the elbow and sinking a jump shot. Blakes scored eight points and dished a career-high 10 assists in the win.
Maxime Raynaud continued his early season dominance, tallying eye-popping numbers of 32 points and 16 rebounds. The game marked his fourth straight with at least 20 points and the third time in the last three games he scored more than 30. Raynaud had a double-double in the first half alone – his nation-leading sixth of the year in as many games – with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 12 of Stanford’s first 14 points, but the Broncos led by 10 at the half, 37-27.
The Cardinal emerged from the locker room and immediately put together a 12-0 run to go ahead, 39-37. The Broncos managed to rebuild an eight-point lead in the period, including with 3:29 to play, 67-59. Stanford responded to tie the game over the next 2:20 with an 8-0 ruin, with all eight points coming from Sellers. Raynaud added a basket with 32 seconds to go, setting up the Blakes shot for the win in the closing seconds.
Stanford continues its two-game stretch away from Maples Pavilion on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Acrisure Holiday Classic in Palm Desert, California, where it will face Grand Canyon. The 4 p.m. tip will air on TruTV and stream on Max.
