DALLAS – The Stanford men’s swimming team closed out the four-day SMU Invitational by sweeping all six races on Saturday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.
In the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Stanford earned its fourth NCAA relay A cut of the meet. The team of Andres Dupont Cabrera, Andrei Minakov, Rafael Gu, and Henry McFadden clocked 2:47.89 to beat the A standard of 2:49.79. Stanford now has A cuts in every relay event.
Stanford swimmers earned eight personal bests Saturday and 28 NCAA B cut times. In addition, there were four additions or improvements to the team’s all-time Top 15 list.
Liam Custer earned one of them in winning the 1,650 free in a B time of 14:40.58, jumping three spots on the all-time list to No. 7. His previous best was 14:46.22.
Other winners were Aaron Sequeira in the 200 backstroke (1:40.80), Andres Dupont Cabrera in the 100 free (42.22), Ron Polonsky in the 200 breaststroke (1:52.36), and Henry McFadden in the 200 butterfly (1:43.14).
Of the four teams that competed in the swimming competition, Stanford was the high scorer with 1,043.5 points. SMU was second with 957.5, with Drury third with 727, and Hawai’i fourth with 545.
The meet concludes the fall season for Cardinal swimming, though the USA Diving Winter Nationals are Dec. 8-15 in Bloomington, Indiana.
