Stanford hosts four opponents who reached last year's IRA V8+ Grand Final

Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men’s rowing team has released its 2025 schedule, which includes four home events on its Redwood Shores course.

The home schedule includes two traditional rivalries – against Washington on April 5 and Cal on May 3.

Stanford and Washington annually race each other for the Andrea and Everett Peter Paup Cup, named in honor of former UW and Stanford coxswain Pete Paup, a U.S. Marine veteran who finished second in the coxed pair at the 1956 U.S. Olympic Trials. Stanford and Washington also take on Wisconsin in the three-team event.

The Big Row against Cal has been held since April 30, 1904, when they first met in the Oakland Estuary on four-oared barges with coxswains. The schools compete for the Schwabacher Cup.

Stanford’s home schedule includes competition against five of last year’s top-seven placers in the Varsity Eight at the IRA Championships. Washington (first), Cal (third), Yale (fifth), and Syracuse (sixth) raced in the Grand Final. With Brown and Stanford finishing first and sixth in the Varsity 8+ second final.

Stanford races Brown, Syracuse, and Yale at Redwood Shores on April 12-13.

Stanford opens its season at home on March 1-2 against Oregon State and a team to be determined. Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, and Washington were competitors in the Pac-12 Conference and will renew their rivalries not only in the regular season, but as first-year members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

The MPSF Championships, which also includes Gonzaga, Santa Clara, San Diego, and UC San Diego, will be held May 17-18 on Lake Natoma near Gold River, California.

The IRA Championships will be on Cooper River, in Camden, New Jersey, on May 30-June 1.
