NCAA Tournament Opens in Norman

STANFORD, Calif. – Making its 16th consecutive NCAA Tournament, Stanford men's tennis will begin it's push for its 18th title this weekend against SMU on Oklahoma's campus. The host Sooners are the No. 11 seed and will take on UT Arlington in the first round.

The first-round matchup with SMU will be the 12th in program history against the Mustangs, with Stanford holding a 10-1 mark all-time in the series. The last meeting came in 1998. The Cardinal is 3-0 against Oklahoma all time and has never faced UT Arlington.

20th-ranked Stanford enters the tournament with a 17-6 overall record as the co-champions of the Pac-12. The Cardinal went 7-1 during the conference regular season and reached the championship match of the Pac-12 Tournament.

Stanford is 115-27 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, and it has advanced beyond the regional round in five of the past seven seasons.

NCAA first and second round competition features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. Following super regionals on campus sites, the final eight teams will advance to compete for the national championship May 16-25 in Stillwater, Oklahoma on the campus of Oklahoma State.
