Inaugural ACC Dual-Meet Victory

For the first time since the 2015 season, the Cardinal recorded a team meet total of 197.000-or-better in the month of January as the No. 18 Cardinal took down the No. 21 NC State Wolfpack 197.025-195.925

STANFORD, Calif. – For the first time since the 2015 season, Stanford women’s gymnastics recorded a team meet total of 197.000-or-better in the month of January as the No. 18 Cardinal took down the No. 21 NC State Wolfpack 197.025-195.925 in its inaugural ACC dual meet inside Maples Pavilion.

Junior Anna Roberts shined with a career-best all-around total of 39.650, led by event titles on bars and floor. Senior Brenna Neault won the beam title with a career-best matching score of 9.950 and earned a season-best all-around score of 39.400. Sophomore Sienna Robinson won the first event title of her collegiate career with her career-best 9.925 on floor. 

In 2015, the Cardinal scored 197.000 in a victory over Oregon State on Jan. 26.
Stanford’s team total of 197.025 in 2025 is its best in the month of January since the 2014 season, when the Cardinal earned a score of 197.275 in a win over UC Davis, San Jose State, and Utah State on Jan. 26, 2014. 

The Cardinal got things started on vault in a big way, led by five of six gymnasts in the rotation matching or marking a new season-best total. Stanford’s team total of 49.100 was highlighted by Roberts’ anchor score of 9.875, just .025 off her season best, and a 9.850 from senior Anapaula Gutierrez. The scores built throughout the rotation, starting with freshman Kendra Chang’s 9.700, followed by a 9.775 from freshman Alana Walker, and then scores of 9.800 from both junior Taralyn Nguyen and senior Brenna Neault in the third and fourth spots of the lineup. 

Stanford had a 49.100-48.900 lead after one rotation.

The momentum continued on bars, as the Cardinal improved its team bars rotation score from its first meet by .4 points with a total of 49.175 against the Wolfpack. Roberts once again highlighted the rotation with a score of 9.925, earning the lone 9.900-or-better score of the meet on the apparatus. Neault posted a 9.850 for Stanford’s second-best score of the rotation, while Gutierrez led off with a 9.825 and freshman Ui Soma debuted in a Cardinal leo with a 9.750. Freshman Jaime Dugan posted a 9.600 in the second spot.

After two rotations, the Cardinal led the Wolfpack 98.275 to 97.900. 

Stanford’s beam rotation continued the Maples Magic, bettering its season-opening rotation score by .600 to earn a 49.375 team total. Neault led the way with a career-best tying 9.950, following a 9.925 from Roberts, and the rotation was capped by a 9.900 from sophomore Sienna Robinson. Soma made her collegiate debut on the event, scoring a 9.825, while junior Claire Dean led off with a 9.775 and sophomore Temple Landry earned the same total as Dean in the second spot of the lineup.

With one rotation left, the Cardinal led the Wolfpack 147.650-147.125.

The Cardinal’s floor squad sealed the win, earning a season-high team total of 49.375 led by event-title winning scores of 9.925 from Robinson (career-best total) and Roberts (matched season-best total). Dean kicked off the excellent rotation with a 9.850, while Neault added a 9.800 in the fourth spot of the lineup and Walker posted a new collegiate-best floor score of 9.875. 

Stanford hits the road for its next ACC dual meet, meeting current No. 19 Pittsburgh on their home turf for a Sunday matinee meet on Jan. 26. The matchup of conference foes will be televised on the ACC Network and will begin at 1 p.m. PT.
