Bell Breaks Record In Cardinal Win Over Cal

Lucy Bell clocks the fastest 200 breast time in program history to lead Stanford to 180-119 win on Saturday

STANFORD, Calif. - Lucy Bell broke a new Stanford record in the 200 breaststroke, while three other Cardinal swimmers posted new "Stanford Top-10" times to lead No. 3 Stanford to a 180-119 victory over eighth-ranked California on Saturday afternoon.

The feature performance of the meet was Bell's 2:05.10 performance in the 200 breast for the fastest time in Stanford program history. The Fort Collins, Colo., native bested Katie Olsen's previous record of 2:05.88 set in 2014. Bell also added a new career-best time in the 100 breast to complete the breaststroke sweep, clocking a 58.30 to climb to second all-time in the event.

Torri Huske led Stanford with three race wins on the day, most notably turning in a career-best swim of 21.30 to win the 50 free, closing the distance on Simone Manuel's program record of 21.17. Huske also added wins in the 100 free (47.78) and 100 fly (50.72).

Caroline Bricker continued her stellar sophomore campaign with yet another "Stanford Top-10" time in the 200 free, touching first with a mark of 1:42.56. The swim marked Bricker's sixth different event with a "Stanford Top-10" time, and her first time joining the Cardinal ranks in a freestyle event. Bricker also won the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.46.

Lillie Nordmann was Stanford's final "Stanford Top-10" time earner of the meet, capping off her final meet inside Avery Aquatics Center with a 1:51.85 swim in the 200 fly, shaving over half a second off her previous personal best at last season's Pac-12 Championships.

Aurora Roghair once again swept the distance freestyle events, registering a season-best 9:24.78 in the 1000 free, followed by a 4:36.97 effort in the 500 free.

At the diving tower, seniors Maria Papworth and Lauren Burch each tallied an event title in their last home meet. Papworth tallied a 294.45 to claim the 1-meter crown, while Burch paced the field with a 303.38 in the 3-meter.

Cal notched wins in both the relay events in Saturday's meet, touching first in both the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay.

The meet also served as Stanford's Senior Day, where the program honored each of its nine seniors - Lauren Burch, Meghan Lynch, Lillie Nordmann, Maria Papworth, Samantha Pearson, Anna Shaw, Aurora Roghair, Sam Tadder, and Amy Tang

With the regular season coming to a close, the Cardinal will now turn its attention to the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. on February 18-22.
