Stanford Concludes at The Prestige

Cardinal turns in solid final round as Wang takes top-15 finish

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Nathan Wang’s 3-under third round was enough for a 11-man jump into the top-15 as the Stanford men’s golf team wrapped up competition at The Prestige on Wednesday. Stanford finished the tournament in a tie for 12th at 4-over through the three-day event.

Wang had a very strong start to the afternoon, grabbing his best opening to a round during the tournament with three birdies through the first four holes to jump into the top-20 early in the round. Having taken a 3-under, 68 scorecard into the back nine, Wang followed up with another birdie on hole three before hitting a birdie on a par-5 hole eight for his penultimate hole of the tournament. Following a double-bogey on hole nine, Wang ended the day at a team leading 3-under for the round and 4-under for the tournament to finish in a tie for 12th overall.

Stanford continued its strong start to the round with three other golfers recording a birdie before notching an extra stroke on the scorecard. TK Chantananuwat grabbed a birdie on hole 12 before a bogey on 13 forced him into an even-par through nine holes. Chantananuwat kept pace the remainder of the way, shooting at par to finish the tournament at 3-over.

Both Kush Arora and Ethan Gao ended the tournament at 4-over, albeit through different avenues during round three. Arora, who floated from a birdie on 15 to a double-bogey on a par-5 hole 16, wrapped up the day with a birdie on his final hole of the tournament to finish 1-over for the afternoon. Gao, on the other hand, rifled through his best nine hole start of the tournament, hitting the turn at 1-under after facing some trouble having rattled off three-consecutive birdies from hole 12-15. Gao’s final nine of the tournament was unkind, however, as four bogeys saw the Cardinal turn in a 3-over performance for the afternoon and 4-over for the tournament.

Jay Leng fought off trouble on the front nine later in the round, earning his first birdie of the afternoon on hole 4 to bring him back in the hunt for an even-par. However, two bogeys on the final four holes saw Leng turn in a 4-over, 76, on the Card to end the tournament.

Individually, Sean-Karl Dobson showed well in The Prestige Individual Tournament, claiming a tie for sixth. Dobson, who followed up a strong 1-under performance in round one with a 2-over round two, took a strong day in round three with a 1-over, 72 to finish the tournament at 2-over. Brian Ma finished two strokes behind Dobson after turning in a 3-over, 74 on the final day to place inside the top-10 as well.

Logan Kim and Dean Greyserman finished inside the top-25 on the individual side with Kim placing in a tie for 13th at 8-over after entering the day at even-par for the course. Greyserman finished in a tie for 24th, turning in an overall performance at 14-over.

Stanford is back in action in two weeks, heading across the border to take part in the Cabo Collegiate at the Twin Dolphin Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico on March 2-4.
