- The Battle of the Bay, between No. 2 Stanford and San Jose State, takes place on Tuesday morning at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin.
- The Battle of the Bay follows a standard match play format, with one point awarded to each golfer to win her match.
- 2025 marks the third year of the Battle of the Bay. Stanford won the inaugural event in 2022 and won 5-1 last year.
- Match play has been great to Stanford as of late. The Cardinal won all three matches at the NB3 Collegiate at Twin Warriors, including a win over then-No. 2 Texas. Additionally, Stanford won its final four match play events of the 2023-24 season, including the 2024 NCAA Championship.
- The spring portion of the 2024-25 season began on Feb. 10-11 at the San Diego State Classic. Stanford remained perfect this season with a 32-stroke win over the field.
- By finishing 31-strokes under par, Stanford posted its third-best team performance in program history and its best since the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional (50-strokes under par).
- Meja Ortengren claimed the individual championship, her first collegiate tournament win. She became the third different winner for Stanford this season, and the first freshman winner since Rose Zhang’s individual NCAA championship in 2022.
- Ortengren finished the second round of the San Diego State Classic with a 10-under 62, tying the program record for most strokes under par in a single round. Her win by eight strokes over teammate Paula Martin Sampedro is believed to be the largest gap between first and second in a Stanford win in program history.
- Four other Cardinal finished in the top 10 in San Diego: Martin Sampedro (second), Kelly Xu (tied for fourth), Megha Ganne (tied for sixth) and Nora Sundberg (tied for tenth).
- Stanford dropped to No. 2 in the Clippd rankings following its win at the San Diego State Classic. Arkansas is currently ranked ahead of Stanford.
- Stanford’s six golfers for the 2025 Battle of the Bay are as follows: Meja Ortengren, Paula Martin Sampedro, Kelly Xu, Megha Ganne, Nora Sundberg, and Leigh Chien.
