STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford opened its new facility with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Saint Mary’s on Wednesday afternoon. The match was the Cardinal’s first played at the new Taube Pavilion at Arrillaga Tennis Center.
Chidimma Okpara won it with her first clincher for Stanford with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Stefanie Silva. The Cardinal largely rolled on the other five courts with Valerie Glozman, Connie Ma, Valencia Xu and Caroline Driscoll all straight-set winners.
Emma Sun dropped her first set at No. 6 to Madison Weekley but bounced back to win the second 6-2 and took her match in a 10-5 tiebreak.
Driscoll and Xu teamed up for the first time in doubles and won 6-2 at No. 2. Glozman and Ma cruised on court 1 6-2.
Stanford returns to the courts on Friday at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 46 UC Santa Barbara.
