STANFORD, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford registered its fifth and sixth straight 5-0 victories Saturday, topping Pacific and Santa Clara at the Cardinal’s Battle of the Bay tournament.
Stanford continued its winning ways from Friday quickly Saturday morning, snagging the first point over Pacific on court two with a 21-4, 21-9 dominate win by senior Taylor Wilson and freshman Charlotta Bell. Senior Serena Taylor and junior Ashley Vincent secured a 2-0 lead with a come-from-behind victory on court four, falling to Pacific’s Beckett/Davies in set one but resurging in the second and third sets for a 18-21, 21-11, 15-6 win. Junior Line Andersson and senior Camdyn Doucet clinched the dual with a 21-9, 21-14 victory on court five. Freshmen Indigo Clarke and Logan Tusher brought the score to 4-0 with a 21-17, 21-14 win on court one, while juniors Kelly Belardi and Phoenix Clarke captured the sweep with a 21-5, 21-9 victory on court three.
The Cardinal ended the Battle of the Bay with its sixth straight 5-0 sweep, this time besting Santa Clara in straight sets on all courts. Freshman Babi Gubbins and junior Sophie Kubiak kicked off the match with a 21-17, 21-16 win on court two, and just minutes later junior Daria Gusarova and fifth year Emmy Sharp finished a 21-16, 21-12 victory on court four. Sophomores Ruby Sorra and Brooke Rockwell sealed the victory with a 21-14, 21-16 win on court one. Vincent and redshirt junior Emma Morris pushed the lead to four points with a 21-15, 21-19 win on court five and sophomores Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell sealed the 5-0 victory on court three, 21-17, 21-16.
Stanford hosts six of its MPSF conference foes March 7-8 for the MPSF Mid-Season Battle at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Cardinal takes on Oregon and UCLA on March 7 and USC and California on March 8. In total, 12 matches will occur on The Farm over the two-day tournament. Admission to the event is free.
