STANFORD, Calif. – No. 27 Stanford had its six-match winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to No. 35 California at Taube Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears took the first point with wins on the top two doubles courts. Stanford jumped in front in singles with wins from Connie Ma at No. 2 over Jessica Alsola 6-2, 6-2 and Caroline Driscoll at No. 4 over Berta Passola Folch 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Cal evened it with a win from Lan Mi over Valencia Xu at No. 3 and pushed the Cardinal (10-3, 3-1 ACC) to the brink with a Naomi Xu victory over Chidimma Okpara at No. 5.
The Bears (6-4, 3-0 ACC) clinched it with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 from Sophie Hernandez over freshman Morgan Shaffer.
On the top court, Valerie Glozman was last to finish, a three-set victor over Mao Mushika, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
Stanford next hits the road for two weeks, beginning with a match at No. 47 Virginia Tech next Friday, March 21 at 9 a.m. PT. The Cardinal will also face No. 3 Virginia, Miami and Florida State before returning to The Farm to host No. 4 North Carolina on Friday, April 4.
