Top Half after Two Rounds

Stanford shoots solid morning, finds out fate after dark

STANFORD, Calif. — Seven combined birdies from Jay Leng and TK Chantananuwat capped off what was an impressive day for the Stanford men’s golf team as it wrapped up the second round from The Goodwin on Friday. Shooting 13-over through two rounds, Stanford currently sits in 15th heading into the final day.

Leng, who finished as the team-leader on the afternoon with a card of 1-under overcame a 2-over card through 11 holes with a trio of birdies starting with consecutive saved strokes on holes 3 and 4 before grabbing his final birdie of the afternoon on hole nine to end the round.

Chantananuwat, who entered the morning slot inside the top 20, had the largest storyline of the day, grabbing a 4-under card before some late trouble kept him at even-par for the round. The freshman placed as high as third overall in the live leaderboard during the morning starts, grabbing three birdies through his first eight holes of the day. Chantananuwat grabbed his final birdie on hole 1 before some late bogeys forced him to turn in a 70 for the round. He enters the final round of in 14th place at 1-under.

Nathan Wang and Logan Kim both had respectable rounds as well for Stanford, earning 1-over and 3-over cards, respectively. Wang fired off an eagle on a par-5 hole 16 for his biggest shot of the day as an up-and-down final nine holes caused him into 71 for the day. Kim bounced back from a harsh day one and battled back to 3-over through the first nine after extra strokes cost him through the first six holes. Kim then bagged five birdies the remainder of his 12 holes on the day to finish at 3-over. Ethan Gao also had a strong outing but three extra combined strokes on holes two and three forced him into a 4-over, 74 for the day.

Independently, Dean Greyserman led the way for Stanford, shooting 2-over for the afternoon after an early triple bogey on his first hole of the afternoon. Greyserman walked in four birdies en route to his 2-over showing. Brian Ma had a similar outing to Greyserman, battling a tough front-nine to take a 5-over card for the day while Kush Arora did well to battle the course, finishing 8-over.

Stanford is back in action tomorrow morning, teeing off from the back nine at 1:05 p.m. to conclude action at The Goodwin.
