Stanford picks up second consecutive win to open ACC play

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 32 Stanford ran its winning streak to five with a 5-2 victory over Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

Now 2-0 to start its inaugural season in the ACC, the Cardinal has won 120 of its last 127 matches on The Farm.

For the second consecutive day, it was Valencia Xu with the clincher. The senior captain beat Muskan Mahajan at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1.

Stanford won doubles with wins at No. 1 from Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma and No. 2 from Caroline Driscoll and Xu.

Glozman and Ma were the first two finishers in singles before Xu’s clincher. Glozman beat Seren Agar at No. 2 6-2, 6-0 and Ma was an easy winner over Olivia Benton at No. 1 6-2, 6-1.

Chidimma Okpara picked up the Cardinal’s other singles win, a 2-6, 6-0, 10-8 victor at No. 5.

Stanford returns to action next Friday when it hosts No. 46 SMU at 1 p.m.
