STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal lights are back on the water for the first time this spring, heading to New Jersey to take on Princeton on Saturday, April 12. Competition is set to begin at 6 a.m. PT on Lake Carnegie.
The Cardinal 4+ boat opens the season ranked second in the nation, followed by the double sitting third in the country and the Cardinal eight slotting in at number four.
LAST TIME OUT » The Cardinal lights competed in just one event in the fall, with the varsity 8+ boat finishing seventh at the Head of the Charles in Boston. Freshman Campbell McClellan made her collegiate debut in the no. 1 seat, joining a boat that included all four returners from last season’s champion varsity 4+ boat.
ANOTHER TUSSLE WITH THE TIGERS » Stanford and Princeton sqaure off once again, last meeting in 2024 when the Cardinal hosted the Ivy League foe in Redwood Shores. The varsity four topped No. 1 Princeton by over nine seconds with a time of 7:37.49, while Stanford eight trailed the Tigers 6:43.67 to 6:50.15, and the double finished just under two seconds behind with a time of 7:58.87.
RESURGENCE AT IRA'S » Stanford's varsity 4+ boat took home a national championship last June, part of a Cardinal effort that finished second in the Commissioner's Cup standings at the IRA Championships. Four of the five members of the 4+ boat return for the 2024-25 season.
