STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford enjoyed another strong showing with two regattas on opposite sides of the country this weekend, highlighted by its third PCCSC win in the last two weeks.
The Cardinal dominated to win its third conference title of the spring at the PCCSC Open Team Race Championship on Saturday, going 19-0 over the ten-team field. Hawai'i (13-6) and Cal Maritime (10-9) finished second and third in the event.
Skippers Dylan Sih, Thomas Whidden, Sophie Fisher, and Lucas Woodworth raced with crews Shay Wood, Abby Baird, Alexandra Jones, and Ava Cornell in the conditions-shortened regatta, earning eight 1-2-3 sweeps in their 19 race wins.
On the opposite coast, Stanford sent seven sailors to Connecticut to compete in the Thompson Trophy Open Team Race, finishing third out of seven teams with an 11-7 record. Yale went 14-4 on the weekend to win the regatta, followed by Dartmouth with a 12-6 record to finish second.
"Our time has all the pieces we need to succeed at Nationals in two weeks. It's just about putting those pieces together," assistant coach Shawn Harvey said. "After a tough first day, we emphasized communication and teamwork and had a much better last day. A little more work on this for the next two weeks will go a long way."
Vanessa Lahrkamp, Thomas Sitzmann, and Reader Deacker handled skipper duties, with Kit Harned, Ashtyn Tierney, Alice Schmid, and Piper Blackband handled crew duties as the Cardinal competed in three sets of round-robin throughout the weekend.
