GREENSBORO, Calif. — Making their first trip to the ACC Women’s Golf Championship, top-ranked Stanford women’s golf made a quick impression. With two rounds of stroke play in the books at Sedgefield Country Club, the Cardinal are leading the pack and have the clubhouse leader.
Two of the top three teams in the country are the ones battling for the top seed in match play. Stanford leads the field at 15-under as a team through rounds, with team scores of 282 and 279. Third-ranked Florida State is three strokes back at 12-under. No other team is better than 1-under par, with No. 13 Virginia sitting in third and 14 strokes off the lead.
The clubhouse leader through two rounds is freshman Andrea Revuelta in her first conference championship. She was not just consistent on Wednesday: she was consistently great. Revuelta had the second-lowest score of each round, finishing with a 5-under 67 in both rounds to finish the day 10-under with a 134. Part of her success came on par-5s, where she recorded an incredible four eagles. Her back nine on the first round and her first nine holes in the second round featured four eagles, including two eagles on 18.
Her 67s continue a hot stretch for the freshman from Spain, who finished tied for fourth at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. She was under 70 in both the first and second rounds at Champions Retreat. Going back to the Silicon Valley Showcase, Revuelta has shot four consecutive rounds in the 60s in NCAA-sanctioned events.
Joining Revuelta near the top of the leaderboard is fellow Spaniard Paula Martín Sampedro, who overcame a slow start on the day to finish 5-under through two rounds, with scores of 71 and 68. Martín Sampedro began with a bogey on her first hole and did not record a bogey in until hole 11 but then was nearly flawless the rest of the day. She went 2-under on the back nine in the first round before her 68 in the second round, one of the lowest rounds on the day. She went bogey-free during the 68, including consecutive birdies to open the round. Martín Sampedro sits in a tie for fifth heading into the final round of stroke play.
Perhaps the biggest turnaround of the day for the Cardinal came from Kelly Xu, who overcame a 79 in the first round to shoot a 3-under 69 in the second round. She began her second round in a much different fashion than the first, where she birdied four times during her first nine holes. This was quite the turnaround, where she did not record a bogey during those same nine holes in the first round. It moved Xu 31 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 27th.
With Revuelta leading, two Florida State Seminoles are hot on her heels. Lottie Woad, the top-ranked amateur in the world, is 9-under and just one stroke back, while the second-ranked amateur, Mirabel Ting, is two strokes behind at 8-under. Martín Sampedro sits in a tie for fourth with Constance Fouillet of California five strokes behind Revuelta.
The final round of stroke play in the 2025 ACC Championship takes place on Thursday, with teams beginning to tee off at 5:00 am PT. Stanford will not have its first golfer tee off until 6:40 am PT, when Xu tees off first. Following the last round of stroke play, the field will be cut down to eight teams for match play, similar to the NCAA Championship. Match play begins with the quarterfinals on Friday at 4:30 am PT.
