STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Stanford closed out the regular season Friday with a 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 8-15 loss to No. 13 Grand Canyon in Maples Pavilion.
Grand Canyon (17-9, 6-6 MPSF) out hit Stanford .358 to .277 and held an 11.0 to 9.5 advantage in blocks. The Cardinal racked up 37 digs to 29 by the Lopes and held an 8-7 edge in aces.
Opposite Moses Wagner registered a match-high 21 kills on .385 hitting, four digs, four blocks and a career-high five aces. Outside hitter Theo Snoey added 19 kills on a .471 attack percentage to go with a career-best 15 digs for his second double-double of the season.
Stanford led wire-to-wire in the two sets it won on Friday, hitting .538 in the first and .364 in the third.
Setter Theoren Brouillette controlled the offense with 50 assists and tallied six digs, a block and an ace. The Cardinal utilized two liberos as freshman Evan Porter collected six digs and freshman Kai Schmitt had two digs and an assist.
Outside hitter Nate Clinton recorded five kills, four blocks and two digs. Freshman middle blocker Kaumana Carreira had a match-high five blocks to go with three kills and two digs. Freshman Reed Wainwright chipped in with five kills, two blocks and an ace.
GCU was led by outside hitter Trent Moser, who turned in 15 kills, four digs, a block and an ace. Opposite Jarrett Anderson added 11 kills on .450 hitting, six digs, two blocks and two aces.
Stanford finishes the regular season at 11-14 overall and 4-8 in the MPSF. The Cardinal now awaits its seeding for the MPSF Tournament, being held April 22-26 at Pepperdine.
