ACC Run Ends In Stroke Play

No. 42 Stanford plays nearly two rounds on final day to conclude ACC Championship debut

BOWLING GREEN. Ky. — No. 42 Stanford completed its inaugural stint at the ACC Men’s Golf Championships, earning strong performances from all of its golfers including a daunting day on Saturday that included nearly 27 holes of action. Stanford, which shot a three-day total of 879 placed 13th at 15-over for the tournament. 

Stanford, which entered the second round in match play position on Thursday, had a rough start to the round as the weather played a factor at Olde Stone, forcing delays on more than one occasion. Following a delay to start, Stanford braved through the course shooting 7-over before being held in a weather delay. Stanford continued to battle through the elements during the truncated round on Friday, ultimately ending the day near the turn as play was suspended. 

Concluding the eventual round nearly 24 hours later, the Cardinal ended the second round at 9-over, slipping in at 14th place shooting 12-over in total heading into the final afternoon. During the second round, Nathan Wang was the lowest scorer for the Cardinal, finishing the day at 1-under and tied for 22nd overall. Wang, who rattled off four birdies on the round, grabbed his final saved stroke on the 18th hole to conclude the round for Stanford. 

Elsewhere during the second round, TK Chantananuwat and Ethan Gao earned a combined four birdies with Chantananuwat shooting at-par while Gao shot 6-over. Jay Leng also earned one birdie during the round, earning a saved stroke between weather delays on hole five. Logan Kim also had a decent round on the second day, earning a 2-over card past the turn en route to submitting a 4-over card for the round. 

Following an early start to the morning, Stanford continued to try and chip away at the deficit on the course with Wang and Gao shooting even for the course on the final day.Wang, who ended the tournament at 2-under and tied for 17th overall, overcame a 1-over card at the turn by earning two of his four birdies on the day on the back-nine to finish his championships. Gao also had a strong thief round, earning two birdies on the front nine before ending the round even for the course, finishing the tournament at 9-over and tied for 58th.

Leng was strong in his Saturday outing placing in a tie for 58th after shooting 1-over during the final round. Following a bogey on his opening hole, Leng earned two along the front nine before turning in a card of 73. Chantananuwat and Logan Kim rounded out the scores for Stanford on the final day with Kim shootin 2-over with three birdies including one on the 18th hole while Chantananuwat battled a tough front nine earning, three birdies before finishing the round at 4-over while placing tied for 44th at 5-over. 

Stanford now awaits its postseason fate with the selections for the 2025 NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals taking place on April 30.
