Card Drops Second Match at BYU

Stanford records season-best 14.5 blocks

PROVO, Utah – Despite registering a season-best 14.5 blocks, No. 12 Stanford dropped a 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17 decision to No. 7 BYU, Friday, at Smith Fieldhouse.

Stanford (9-12, 2-6 MPSF) out hit BYU (17-7, 5-3 MPSF) .271 to .216 and held a 14.5 to 5.0 advantage in blocks. The Cougars played relentless defense, racking up 46 digs to just 19 by the Cardinal.



Outside hitter Theo Snoey recorded a match-high 14 kills on .312 hitting, four digs, four blocks and two assists. Opposite Moses Wagner added 11 kills and a career-high eight blocks. The junior also put down the Cardinal’s lone ace of the series.



Setter Theoren Brouillette finished with 38 assists, a kill, a dig and a block. Libero Evan Porter collected a team-high eight digs.

Sophomore Nate Clinton returned to the starting lineup on Friday, totaling seven kills, four blocks, a dig and an assist.

Middle blocker Luke McFall registered a career-high seven blocks to go with four kills and two digs. Freshman middle blocker Reed Wainwright posted six kills on 10 errorless swings to hit .600, and had four blocks.  



BYU was led by middle blocker Teon Taylor, who totaled 10 kills on 14 swings to hit .714. Outside hitter Luke Benson turned in a team-high 13 kills, while setter Tyler Herget had a double-double with 41 assits and a match-high 12 digs.

Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to No. 3 USC on Friday and Saturday.
