NAPA, Calif. — Making the journey to wine country for her final rounds of the regular season, Leigh Chien played in the Silverado Showdown for top-ranked Stanford women's golf. Putting a bow on her regular season, Chien battled through the three rounds to finish near the middle of the 88-golfer field, in a tie for 36th.
The best round of the tournament for Chien came in her first round on Monday morning, when she finished with an even-72. She was 1-over on the back nine where she began play, but then birdied on the par-3 third hole and was clean the rest of the way to stay even with par. Her two birdies on Monday were the highlight of her week, as she was only able to get one more birdie the rest of the way.
Things were more of a struggle during her Tuesday and Wednesday rounds. She finished with scores of 75 and 76 during the second and third rounds, with her lone birdie coming once again on the par-3 third hole on Wednesday morning.
Her first regular season on The Farm concluded Wednesday, with an average round of 73.08 across her first 24 rounds. That is the ninth-lowest freshman average among qualifying freshmen in program history (minimum of 20 rounds).
Stanford will not compete again as a team until the 2025 ACC Championship on April 16-19 in Greensboro, N.C. This will be Stanford golf’s first crack at an ACC title. The Cardinal will enter the postseason as defending conference champions, however, having won the final Pac-12 championship in 2024. Two individuals will compete in the Silverado Showdown in Napa on April 7-9.
