GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Both Stanford boats advanced to grand finals at the program’s first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men’s Rowing Championships.
Stanford’s varsity and second varsity eights each placed second in their heats on Saturday at Lake Natoma and advanced on place. The Stanford 1V8+ boat clocked 5:57.695 and the 2V8+ boat came in at 6:08.528.
The Cardinal will be part of four-boat grand finals comprised entirely of teams from last year’s Pac-12 Conference.
In both races, Stanford finished behind Cal, whom the Cardinal will meet in the grand finals, along with Washington and Oregon State in each. The task will be formidable for the improving Cardinal crews against No. 1 Washington, No. 2 Cal, and No. 19 Oregon State. Stanford is ranked No. 7.
Stanford has placed third in the varsity eight race the past 10 seasons in the Pac-12, and has 19 consecutive top-three finishes, going back to 2005 in the Pac-10.
In the team standings, Stanford is coming off four consecutive fourth places in the Pac-12.
