Stanford competes at the three-day IRA Championships beginning Friday

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Stanford men’s rowing team competes at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships Friday through Sunday at Cooper River Park.

The Cardinal reached the AB semifinals last year on the way finishing 12th among the varsity eights. Stanford will seek to improve upon that performance and perhaps reach its first Grand Final since 2021.

Stanford opens Friday in Heat 2 of the 1V8+. From lanes 1 through 6, the field is No. 18 Columbia, No. 10 Northeastern, No. 2 Washington, No. 7 Stanford, No. 15 Georgetown, and No. 24 Gonzaga. The top three advance to the AB semifinals and the rest move to the CD semis. Race time is 5:24 a.m. PT.

The 1V8+ Grand Final – the premier race of the regatta – is Sunday at 9:10 a.m. PT.

In 2V8+, Stanford races Friday in Heat 2 at 6:12 a.m. PT. The field, from lanes 1 through 6, is Navy, Stanford, California, Yale, Temple, and Gonzaga.

Stanford has competed at the IRA Championships since 1912 and has 10 top-six finishes all-time in the varsity eight. The team’s best finish is second, in 1915.

Stanford is expected to send out a 1V8+ boat directed by coxswain Kannan Alford. The lineup from stroke to bow: Tom Corbett, Elliott Donovan-Davies, James Fetter, Luke Smith, Max Shakespeare, Adrien Richez, Gabriel George, and James Pullinger.

The Cardinal 2V8+ is expected to be: coxswain Gabrielle Zammit, stroke Philip Wolfensberger, Hylton Harvey, Sandro Scalfi, Arthur Scott, Maxim Ericson, Caspar Griffin, Callen Berwick, and bow Leopold Hainlein.
