STANFORD, Calif. – Luise Bachmann (women’s rowing), Arianna Cao (fencing) and Ryann Neushul (women’s water polo) were honored as Stanford’s College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Women’s At-Large selections on Tuesday.
Cao and Neushul were named to the first team while Bachmann was recognized with a spot on the second team. The three selections increase Stanford’s 2024-25 CSC Academic All-America count to 20 overall, with the men’s honorees to be announced on Wednesday.
Bachmann capped off her career in style, leading Stanford to its second NCAA team championship over the last three seasons in 2025. The three-time CRCA All-American rowed as part of the Cardinal’s varsity eight boat throughout 2025, stroking the boat to its fourth consecutive conference title and an ACC Crew of the Year victory in the program’s inaugural season in the conference.
Bachmann helped Stanford’s varsity eight post an undefeated regular-season record, including wins over No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Tennessee, No. 9 California, No. 10 Virginia, No. 11 Syracuse, No. 18 Duke, No. 22 Clemson and No. 24 North Carolina. A native of Ingelheim, Germany, Bachmann graduated with a degree in human biology and will return to The Farm in 2025-26 to complete a Masters degree in biology.
Cao earned the honors after winning an NCAA Championship in women’s foil, the first individual national champion for the Cardinal since 2015. Cao finished pool play at the national championships 17-6 to earn the final spot in the four-person elimination round. Cao won the final bout 15-14 in overtime against two-time Olympian and former No. 6 fencer in the world, Jessica Guo.
The sophomore’s resume now includes an USFCA All-America First Team selection, two NFCA All-West Region First Team honors, as well as an ACC Women’s Fencer of the Year (foil) selection and an All-ACC Academic honor. A native of San Jose, California, Cao is a combined 58-16 (.784) in individual bouts through two seasons on The Farm.
Neushul, who in 2025 closed out a unique seven-year career which began as a freshman in 2019, became Stanford’s first four-time NCAA champion in school history after leading the Cardinal to this season’s NCAA crown. A native of Goleta, California, she was also named Stanford's eighth recipient of the Peter J. Cutino Award, presented to the nation's most outstanding collegiate player.
Recognized as the ACWPC Player of the Year, Neushul started all 26 contests and led the team in multi-goal games (20) while ranking second in goals (60), assists (39) and shot attempts (105). A four-time ACWPC All-American, Neushul departed The Farm with 228 career goals, ranking fifth all-time in school history. A human biology major, Neushul is the program’s fourth CSC Academic All-America At-Large pick in school history and first since Aria Fischer in 2023.
