Stanford stays in the Bay Area at No. 5 San Jose State, hosts No. 11 Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford Cardinal is staying close to home this weekend, playing at No. 5 San Jose State on Friday before hosting No. 11 Pepperdine on Sunday. The sunday matchup will be the Card's home opener, and the first of six-straight games played at Avery Aquatics Center.

The Card enters at 6-2 on the season, after going 2-2 at last weekend's Overnght MPSF Invitational. Stanford's only losses on the season came at No. 1 UCLA, and in overtime against No. 2 USC.

Last season, Stanford took down Pepperdine in Malibu, winning 14-11. The last time the Card played San Jose State was in 2022, winning 14-7 on The Farm.


VET IN THE CAGE » Temkin returns in the cage after a Second Team All-America and First Team All-MPSF season in 2024. The senior stopped 16 shots in the overtime loss to USC on Sunday, finishing the four-game weekend with 41 total saves.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP » The sophomore class has been key to the Cardinal's success in 2025, accounting for five of the top six point contributors on the team. Botond Balogh has been dominant to start the season, leading the team in points (37), goals (22) and assists (15). Fellow sophomroes Max Zelikov (21) and Ben Forer (20) are right behind him for the team goal lead.

STRONG INTRODUCTION » Transfer Gianpiero Di Martire has made a strong introduction, second on the team in points with 31 (19 goals, 12 assists).

SUMMER ABROAD » Ohl and junior Alex Gheorghe each competed at the World Aquatics World Championships in Croatia this summer. Ohl represented the US, while Gheorghe competed for Romania.
