Glozman Wins ITA All-American Singles Title

First for Stanford since Hilary Barte in 2010

CARY, N.C. – Valerie Glozman capped an incredible start to her sophomore season by winning the ITA Women’s All-American singles title, beating Carmen Herea of Texas in the final on Sunday afternoon, 6-2, 6-3.

Glozman is the first champion from Stanford since Hilary Barte in 2010 and the fourth all-time, joining Patty Fendick (1987), Sandra Birch (1989, 1990) and Barte. Her victory also edged the Cardinal in front of Florida for the most ITA All-American women’s singles titles of all time with five.

Stanford’s superstar, who entered the year sixth in the ITA rankings and was seeded fourth at this tournament, dropped just one set in her six matches in North Carolina. Glozman picked up ranked wins over No. 52 Emilija Tverijonaite (Arizona State), No. 17 Mao Mushika (California), No. 47 Emma Charney (USC), No. 11 Teah Chavez (Ohio State) and No. 21 Herea. She’s won her last 14 collegiate matches dating back to last season and moved to 20-5 all-time against ranked opponents in her season plus one week on The Farm.

In beating Mushika 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the round of 16 on Friday, Glozman qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship for the second consecutive season.

Also in Cary, freshmen Alyssa Ahn and Monika Ekstrand worked their way through qualifying to advance to the main draw at All-Americans, with Ahn winning her main draw opener against No. 25 Kate Fakih of UCLA 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Ekstrand lost in the opening round, picked up a consolation victory over No. 107 Reese Miller of Michigan 6-3, 6-2, but was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Senior Caroline Driscoll and freshmen Tianmei Wang went 1-1 in qualifying.

Elsewhere, Sein Myoung, Morgan Shaffer and Emma Sun competed at the Cal Fall Invite in Berkeley. Myoung was 2-1 in singles, Shaffer 1-1, and Myoung and Sun dropped the only Cardinal doubles match of the weekend.
