ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Cardinal finished second at the Open ACC final this weekend, also picking up a win at the Oberg Trophy and a third-place finish at the Yale Women's Interconference.
At the 18-team ACC regatta, Stanford finished second with 152 points. The A boat of Thomas Sitzmann, with Alice Schmid and Sylan Sih rotating at crew, finished second with 85 points and five top-three finishes.
The B boat was a full team effort, with Sih, Piper Blackband, Lucas Woodworth and Thomas Whidden each joining skipper Vanessa Lahrkamp.
“We sailed strong and I am happy with the work ethic and comradery. I truly believe the group elevated each other throughout the event," said head coach Chris Klevan. "We needed all seven sailors to find the podium, which, I think is what makes college sailing so special. However, Harvard out sailed us, credit to them."
The Cardinal finished first at the Northeastern-hosted Oberg Trophy, finishing with 68 points as all three boats finished in the top three of their respective divisions.
The A boat of Freddie Parkin and Abby Baird finished first with 17 points, finishing in the top five of all five races. The B boat of Griggs Diemar and Caroline Geiger finished second with 22 points and a pair of first-place finishes.
Lastly, the C boat finished third with Avery Baldin and Ava Cornell posting a total of 29 points.
“The Charles River can take just as easily as it can give. Our underclassmen squad learned that this weekend," said assistant coach Shawn Harvey. "Huge improvements were made as the team adapted to one of college sailing’s most challenging venues.”
At the Women's Yale Interconference, Stanford finished third with 116 points. The A boat of Sophie Fisher and Kate Myles finished fourth with 63 points and three top-three finishes. The B boat of Callie Hammond and Alexandra Jones finished second, with 53 points behind two wins and five top-two finishes.
Next up for Stanford is a weekend that features the PCCSC Women's Fall Championship, the Top-9 Invite and the Nickerson Trophy.
