STOCKTON, Calif. – Stanford men’s tennis wrapped up competition on Monday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by Pacific, with the Cardinal combining for eight wins in singles and four in doubles.
The doubles tandem of Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi, playing their first event together, went 3-1 to reach the semifinals. After an 8-2 win to open, the Cardinal duo knocked out back-to-back 9-seeds before falling 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Chang, ranked No. 41 nationally, reached the quarterfinals round of the main draw in singles, going 3-1 as the event’s top-seeded player. Playing in his second tournament as a graduate transfer, Chang downed opponents from Santa Clara, Gonzaga and California before falling in three sets in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Razeghi, the country’s No. 119 singles player entering the event, went 2-1 in his first collegiate tournament of the season. The sophomore picked up wins over players from Oregon and Gonzaga before dropping a three-setter in the round of 16.
Mark Krupkin and Luke Tusher picked up their first career wins in singles. Krupkin went 2-2 in singles play with wins over student-athletes from Sacramento State and Portland State, while Tusher posted a 1-2 mark with a win over a Portland Pilot. Krupkin and Tusher also went 1-2 in doubles together with a win over a tandem from Saint Mary’s.
Stanford returns to action Nov. 6-8 at the ITA Sectional Championships and ITA Conference Masters, hosted in Berkeley and San Diego, respectively.
