Stanford Defeats Clemson in Four

Blyashov records first career double-double

CLEMSON, S.C. – Trailing early, No. 5 Stanford came back to defeat Clemson, 25-27, 25-18, 28-26, 25-15, Friday, at Jervey Gym.

Stanford (17-3) hit .282 as a team as it improved to 8-1 in the ACC. Clemson (12-9, 0-9 ACC) was held to .145 hitting. The Cardinal finished with 60 kills, 69 digs, 8.0 blocks and four aces.

Redshirt sophomores Julia Blyashov and Ipar Kurt started the match as the Cardinal’s outside hitters. Blyashov registered her first collegiate double-double with a team-high 15 kills and a career-best 12 digs. Kurt finished with two kills and three digs in one set played.

Elia Rubin replaced Kurt to start the second. The senior totaled 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks. She also tallied an ace off the tape that moved her into fifth all-time on Stanford’s career aces list with 133.

Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew hit .409 with 12 kills and six blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey notched nine kills on .304 hitting and had a team ad career-high 15 digs.

Freshman Logan Parks registered 32 assists, seven digs and a kill and two blocks. Sophomore Taylor Yu subbed in for Parks in the third set, helping mount a Stanford comeback. Yu had 20 assists, three digs, a block and a kill in two sets played.

Libero Spencer Etzler racked up 11 digs and three assists for the Cardinal. Defensive specialist Koko Kirsch collected seven digs and an ace. Middle blocker Erika Sayer chipped in with 10 kills on .368 hitting and two blocks.

Clemson was led by Mia McGrath’s 14 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Stanford is now 2-0 all-time against the Tigers.

Stanford wraps up the weekend on Sunday at Georgia Tech. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT on ACC Network.
