STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s basketball led for the majority of the night against visiting Seattle, but the visiting Redhawks rallied to defeat the Cardinal, 77-69, to close a five-game homestand. Stanford moves to 4-1 on the season with the result.
Ebuka Okorie led the scoring with 17 points, while Chisom Okpara added 14 and AJ Rohosy pitched in 12. Okorie has scored at least 17 points in all five games, while Okpara and Rohosy added their fourth and third games in double figures this season, respectively. Benny Gealer added nine points, including a 3-for-6 mark from beyond the arc.
Stanford forced 15 Seattle (4-1) turnovers, and scored 18 points from those turnovers, and secured 10 steals, led by two each from Rohosy, Okpara and Okorie. Oskar Giltay added to the defense with four blocked shots in just under 10 minutes of play.
Seattle led early 10-5, but the Cardinal responded with a 10-3 run to take its first lead of the game with 12:14 to go in the half, 15-13, punctuated by a transition dunk from Okpara. Stanford led by as many as five points in the first half, and it held a four-point lead at the half, 41-37, after a deep three from Jeremy Dent-Smith fell in the closing seconds.
The Cardinal pushed its advantage as large as 13 points with 11:31 to play, coming after back-to-back triples from Gealer. The Redhawks responded with an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to three, and the visitors took the lead for good with 2:19 to play.
Stanford returns to action at the Acrisure Invitational, held in Palm Desert, California at Acrisure Arena. The Cardinal will open the tournament against Minnesota on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
